Anchorage is a much larger city than Kodiak and we were blessed with great weather for the second day in a row. While we did not have to use the tenders to leave the ship, we were docked in an industrial area so there were motorcoaches waiting to drive us downtown to the convention center.

Our first stop was the visitors’ center which allows you to fill out post cards for free and they’ll mail them for you (within the US). We sent several to friends and family. I loved this Air Crossroads sign outside!

Next we wandered around the souvenir shops which were both large and numerous. We all found a shirt or two to take home.

For lunch we dined on the patio at 49th State Brewing Company where – if it had been a little clearer in the distance – we could have seen Denali. Post-lunch we stopped next door at Wild Scoops, which is listed as one of the top ice cream shops in the country.

We enjoyed walking along part of the Tony Knowles Costal Trail, which goes along the waterfront.

Anchorage is known for its street art and murals. Almost every dumpster we saw was painted with something cute.

Even the alley side of buildings were decorated, and utility boxes were incorporated into the designs.

Sometimes the art popped up in unexpected places!

The Mushing District is a six-block area that celebrates the history of mushing in Alaska. Not only is there this arch, but there’s a statue of a musher, meant to represent the spirit and heritage of Alaska’s mushers.

In the end

We had a lovely time walking around Anchorage. I hope to get to return one day on my way to ski at nearby Alyeska Ski Resort.
