The stern of the Vasa, a Swedish ship that sank in Stockholm harbour mere minutes into its maiden voyage. It’s a fascinating story. Learn more at the Vasa Museum website: https://www.vasamuseet.se/en

Photo Essay: Thomas Dambo Trolls at Memphis Botanic Gardens

This time last year I’d never heard of Thomas Dambo or his trolls. But during our trip to Scandinavia last year we ran into Green George while at Christiania in Copenhagen.

Green George

Thomas Dambo, the creator of the trolls, is the world’s leading recycle artist and he repurposes all kinds of things in his creations. There’s even a website, trollmap.com, to help you find trolls near you and you can check off the ones you’ve seen.

When I learned that several trolls were going to be featured at Memphis Botanic Gardens this spring I thought I should probably go see them. When I learned my company offered each employee up to 2 free tickets, well, now I really had to go see them! Continue reading

Lodging Review: Passage Point Condo #427, Copper Mountain, Colorado

My final ski trip of the season was to Copper Mountain, Colorado. It was my first visit back to the resort since 2020, just before the pandemic. As was the case five years ago, when my ski club booked group lodging we were only allowed to book gold-, silver- or bronze-level lodging. Gold units are those closest to the slope. Our club chooses to book silver-level lodging. The last time we were at this resort all our units were in the Village Square condos or in Mountain Plaza. This time around most of our units were again in these two condo complexes, but we also had one unit in Silver Lake and our unit in Passage Point.

Shortly before the trip we were told which buildings our condos would be in, but not which units. When I checked the Center Village map I was at first a little disappointed we were “so far” away from everyone else. (Note that nothing is really that far away from anything in Center Village. It only feels like a long way if you’re walking in ski boots!) But it wasn’t too long before I decided we had the better end of the deal. Continue reading
