Our flight landed mid-afternoon in Melbourne and while we’d expected it to be cooler than Uluru, it was a good bit cooler than Sydney too. Not cold, but long sleeves and a light jacket felt good in the evenings with the wind.

We took the Sunbus Melbourne from the airport to the Park Hyatt. Their representative showed up near baggage claim very shortly after we got our bags, which was great timing. We then had to traipse over to the international terminal to find the remaining passengers for our van and then we all played “follow the leader” out to our shuttle.

Naturally we were one of the last groups to be let off at our hotel but we were warmly greeted by the bellman at the Park Hyatt Melbourne. He took our big bags as we went inside to check in. The front desk is located to the right of the main entrance and is staffed by delightful, helpful folks. They confirmed our club room and that we would have breakfast included and gave us our keys.

To the left is the lounge, a nice quiet place to wait for your airport shuttle.

The club room’s standard bedding is a king bed but I’d emailed in advance and asked if we could have a room with twins instead. The nightstands are affixed to the wall so the staff did the best it could but the result was a little comical since the bed on the right was actually in front of the nightstand.

The main thing to us was that we had twin beds. If they had to be right next to each other, that was ok. We ended up moving the bed on the right back into its regular slot. That also freed up more space along the windows and we ended up pushing the glass-topped desk up against them. That allowed us to move rather freely around the foot of the bed.

Just past the end of the bed was a small sitting area with a chair, chaise longue, coffee table and the entertainment center. Another table ran along the wall behind the chaise.

Beside the sitting area, the rollaway bed was tucked up next to the interior wall. The built in vanity behind it served as its nightstand as there were electrical outlets here, which meant we each had a place to charge up all our electronics. Nice!

The yellow area in the photo above leads to the door but you can see the light shining in from the combination closet/bathroom area, which runs the full length of the room. At the end of that room that’s closest to the front door are shelves, drawers and closet space along with the safe. Walking further into the room the toilet room is on the left, enclosed by a pocket door.

The room opens up a bit at that point. The two sinks are on the right and the tub and shower are on the left. The room itself makes a gentle turn back toward the bedding area where a sliding door leads right to the beds.

I thought the sinks and vanity area were very cleverly designed. As you can see in the photos, the basins are raised up a bit. That meant we didn’t have to bend over as far when washing our faces or brushing our teeth. That’s a good thing when you’re getting older! Also, it meant there was a deceptive amount of storage available. You can see the hair dryer, tissues and extra wash cloths on the lower level and the lotion and mouthwash up above.

As usual for Park Hyatt, the toiletries were Bergamote 22 brand.

We didn’t try out the very large tub but it looked nice.

The shower was beside the tub and I’ve only just realized I didn’t get any good photos of it.

Breakfast was held in the Radii Restaurant on the main floor. The breakfast that comes with the room is the cold one though you can pay extra to get the made-to-order omlettes, pancakes, etc. But there was plenty of bread, pastries, cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese, cold cuts, etc. to keep us satisfied. Juice, coffee and tea were included as well.  I didn’t take photos because it was quite busy each day though we never had to wait long to be seated.

Everyone we dealt with was terrific and friendly. The Grand Hyatt is nearby and I debated about which one to choose. The Grand Hyatt is on a main thoroughfare and may have been slightly more convenient as we did have a short walk to get to bus and trolley lines. But the Park Hyatt Melbourne was once again rated the Number 2 hotel in all of Australia (right behind the PH Sydney) and I am very glad we chose to stay here.
